DE LA VILLA JOIA

From the Villa Joia. The Cannes Film Festival – ten fun-filled days of all-day resort wear meetings and all-night formal-wear parties, where anyone who is anyone must be “scene”. You do not sleep. Instead of a row of petit, trop cher hotel rooms on La Croisette, we opted to save beaucoup Euros on the five bedroom Villa Joia, up in the hills nearer Provence, in Super-Cannes. Private, gated pool home with neighbors like Ralph Lauren. (This is the view from my veranda). The dark-hulled two-hundred million dollar, four hundred and fourteen foot, one inch super yacht anchored in the Bay of Cannes, (to the right) is the late Paul Allen’s “Octopus” infamous for its Cannes soirées. On this night, we donned our formal attire and were taken by launch from the dock at the hotel Majestic to the Octopus. Problem was, it was windy, drizzly and choppy as hell in the bay. Getting on to the boat from the launch was a pitching, seesaw circus act. I made it okay, but watched helplessly as every other scantily-clad woman wearing priceless handbags and four-inch heels tried to board, only to splash into the Mediterranean – and had to be fished out and taken back to shore like a wet cat.
