Near the top of Snowmass mountain is a fantastic must-visit restaurant. Sam’s. The only way to get there is to ride the lifts or the gondola up and ski or board in. The food is always good. But, at an altitude of around 12,000 feet, the air is clean, crisp – and thin. Many a skier or group that has had a really great lunch and more than a few cocktails can get into trouble as the low oxygen atmosphere will amplify the effects of a margarita or a martini. If, when you “boot up” outside and you display anything resembling being buzzed to the always-present ski patrol, they will accompany you to the gondola and you will take the “ride of shame” down the mountain and have your day pass revoked.
