Segovia is a very sexy city-village northwest of Madrid, in central Spain’s Castile-León region. Caserio de Lobones, near Segovia is a picturesque finca (estate) situated on 200 hectares of land. The gardens surrounding the finca are the last work by celebrated landscape designer Leandro Silva. He surrounded the estate with groves of ash and pine and fields of lavender and roses. Immediately upon arrival, you hear the bees, zig-buzzing along their pheromonal superhighways. What attracted me to the gardens were the long-stem roses. Rows of vibrant and robust roses. The fragrance in the warm morning dew is dizzying. Because of the frequent events here, the Jardineros punch in at dawn, planting, pruning and watering. Since I had just traveled from Los Angeles, I was wide awake at 4:30 a.m., sipping café español muy fuerte and waiting for the first light…
